This is Sumaira, with one of our most anxiously awaited Baba Island babies, born at Lady Dufferin last month- thanks to the excellent care they provided, she was able to take her baby home safe and sound.
However, Sumaira’s last pregnancy at a government hospital was worlds apart: she looks back at it with horror, calling it one of the most traumatic experiences of her life. Due to a liver condition, she became extremely ill during the pregnancy and had to deliver via an emergency c-section a full 2 months before the due date. After a month and a half in the NICU, her baby passed away, leaving her utterly heartbroken. Not only that, she herself had to stay at the hospital for two months because of an infected c-section wound and a post-surgical clot that nearly took her life.
It is our utmost effort to ensure that no pregnant person has to go through such an experience.
